I am a cake obsessive, based in West Sussex, UK.

I started off making cakes for family and friends before giving up a proper career in favour of playing with sugar full time. Having worked for two bakeries making their wedding and celebration cakes, I am now looking toward world domination with breaks for coffee and chat.

Fishing cake for 60th birthday party - July 2016

Victoria Sponge birthday cake for a keen fisherman.  He didn't want any fuss... but that was never going to happen so his family organised an amazing party at the brilliant Long Furlong Barn and, judging by the reports, it was fantastic!

Got some lovely feedback as well, which always makes me feel happy 😃

Happy birthday Stewart!

Simple Rainbow stacked cake with sprinkles - December 2015

Simple but effective!

Six layers of rainbow vanilla love, stacked high, covered with smoothed buttercream and showered with rainbow sprinkles... perfect.

Now, the only issue with this little lovely is that when you make a cake higher than it is wide, it tends to want a little lie down when you drive it around corners (especially when you've made it to taste this good).

This cake had quite a way to go, so in order to make sure that the cake was safely transported I gave it a central bubble straw support to make sure that the layers didn't slide around on the buttercream.

I also screwed a dowel into the cake drum and positioned the bubble straw and cake over it so nothing could shift during delivery.

I hadn't even got back from delivering the cake before the customer sent me this photo. It seems to have gone down well!

Hoo ha!

Sunshine girl birthday cake - September 2015

Our amazing, talented and very treasured girl has another birthday.

The design was inspired by a wedding cake design that she came up with herself a few weeks back.

Start them young... the lure of cake doesn't hurt of course. She says when she's big she plans to work in the bakery with me so she can draw and eat cake mix all day.  (She's not worked out how much washing up is involved yet!)

I added to the words she had on her version, words about who she is.

The brief for this cake was "girly, maybe with some nail varnish, but definitely with lots of coloured cake inside like the Hungry Catapiller cake you did".

As you can see from the off cuts below, coloured cake...check! 😉

Beautiful sunshine, I can't believe how grown up you are.
We love you darling girl.
Always be you, you are awesome!!!
xxxx

P.S.  The cake didn't last long once the kids saw the rainbow layers inside!

Sharing the cake love...

Just registered with a charity who... well, I'll let them explain;

Baking A Smile is a VERY special cake store, we are a not for profit organisation that provides FREE beautiful custom made celebration cakes to children with life threatening and life limiting health conditions throughout the UK and Ireland.
We are committed to providing a smile and a little happiness to children dealing with illnesses by providing the child with a custom made cake free of charge. We not only provide this service to children with life threatening/limiting illnesses, but also to the siblings of these children, as we understand that it can be tough on them too.
We believe in the power of happiness and smiles and the positivity it can have. If we can bring a smile to a child & their family then hopefully, just for a moment, they can have something happier to focus on.
Baking A Smile was established In December 2012. We have a large team of amateur & professional bakers on hand, donating their time, experience & money to provide amazing cakes for ill children and to fundraisers - which are not only full of yumminess but jam packed with love.

If you're a baker too, why not register and help bring some happy into the lives of people who deserve it!

Running shoe cake - April 2015

40th birthday cake for a lady with a passion for running.

Vanilla buttercream covered chocolate fudge cake with dark chocolate buttercream filling.

The sides are piped rose swirls in orange and pink. The top I kept smooth because of the toppers.

I used the upside-down method to keep it ultra-smooth and swirled the colours to compliment the sides of the cake.

The number 40 and flowers are wired.

The running shoe is made from a Mexican paste core shape with flowerpaste details.

Happy surprise birthday party Abbi :)
